We are determined to provide a stimulating, caring and safe environment for all of our children and their families and for our staff, volunteers and governors. We strive to offer a wide range of opportunities to support and challenge the learning community at Greenmount to persevere, achieve success and develop skills and attributes to live full and rewarding lives. PE, sport and physical activity is an excellent vehicle to achieve this. The Sports Premium Funding helps us to further develop these valuable skills and personal attributes.
The School Games Mark Award (SGM) is a government led initiative and is delivered through the School Games Programme. At Greenmount we currently host one of the islands two School Games Organisers (SGO). The School Games Framework works to a set of values to promote lifelong participation in sport and physical activity. The School Games Values are, Honesty, Passion, Self- Belief, Teamwork, Determination and Respect. These values are promoted in every PE lesson and sports activity held at the school. Launched in 2012 the SGM rewards schools for their commitment to delivering high quality PE and the development of competition opportunities, physical activity and personal challenge across their school and into the community. Participating in the process allows schools to evaluate their PE, school sport amd Physical activity (PESSPA) provision and assists them to develop an action plan for future progress. The Platinum Award was added to the range of criteria as an extension of the SGM to reward schools who had consistently achieved 5 successive Gold level awards. Schools must first achieve the Gold award and are then are invited to submit a detailed case study with supporting evidence accompanied by a supporting statement from their School Games Organiser to achieve Platinum. Greenmount was the first island school to be awarded this prestigious Platinum SGM.
As a school we also pride ourselves on our after school sports club provision and clubs are often oversubscribed. There is a sports club held on every night of the week for KS2 pupils to attend, including a Change 4 life club. Our clubs change every half term (click here to see the current club selection) Children are encouraged to re-apply every half term to attend a sports club so that very child has the opportunity to attend at least one club per half-term. The school employs specialist sports coaches to deliver some clubs and support the PE curriculum. This includes Chelsea FC (IW) Ryde Lawns Tennis Cub, Island Table Tennis Club, IW Country Cricket Board and Shift it Cycling Instructors. We also encourage our own staff to deliver clubs. There is a well-stocked PE store and regular CPD opportunities and support for staff. The school is an active school and has an active playground scheme at lunchtimes with our MSAs supported with CPD and resources. We promote active classrooms and encourage the children to be active through personal challenges and activities.
